People across the UK came out on the streets to march against Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s plan of suspending parliament. Protests took place in London, Manchester and Birmingham as well as in other key cities across the country.
Notable figures and politicians also participated in the protests. Labour leader, Jeremy Corbyn MP marched in Glasgow as part of the ‘Stop the Coup’ rally.
While broadcasting his speech from the rally, the Leader of the Opposition tweeted: “We will stop Boris Johnson’s smash and grab raid on democracy – and give people their say to determine our future”.
Meanwhile, other Labour figures attended similar rallies in London. Diane Abbott, the Shadow Home Secretary, posted that she is “Out in Whitehall today campaigning against the parliamentary shut down”.
Rallies also took place in smaller towns and cities, including: Oxford, Exeter and Aberystwyth. Labour MP for Exeter, Ben Bradshaw stated that there was a “Fantastic turnout for our #Exeter #StopTheCoup rally against Johnson’s attempt to shut down Parliament to force through a crash out no deal #brexit”.
