Switzerland’s Embassy to the Sultanate of Oman celebrated its 10th anniversary on Tuesday, 12 November.
The celebration marked 10 years since Switzerland opened its embassy in Muscat, the capital of Oman, in the same building as the Embassy of the Netherlands.
Ambassador Thomas Oertle, Switzerland’s ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Yemen, marked the diplomatic feat with various engagements.
To commence the 10th anniversary, Ambassador Thomas Oertle, who previously served as the Regional Head of International Cooperation for the Horn of Africa at the Embassy in Nairobi, posed with a delicious and mouthwatering pistachio cake alongside his colleagues and staff from the embassy.
He was joined for the anniversary cake by Ms Sabina Läderach, Deputy Head of Mission; Ms Estelle Sauser, Academic Intern; Ms Sondos Omar, Trade & Diplomatic Affairs Officer; and, Mr Maher Al Maamari, Driver and Public Relations Officer.
Ambassador Thomas Oertle was then invited by a number of broadcasters to highlight the strengthening relationship between the two countries. He was invited by Oman FM, Oman’s National English Radio, and Oman TV General for a wide ranging interview on the robust ties between the two countries.
Commenting on trade, Ambassador Thomas Oertle said that trade between the two countries is “good” but that there is definitely scope for growth. The ambassador’s media engagements were also utilised to highlight the positive contribution that Swiss-Omani cooperation has produced since diplomatic relations were established in 1973.
The ambassador also highlighted the numerous similarities between the two countries by praising the beautiful natural landscapes of Switzerland and Oman.
Reflecting on the diplomatic success of the past 10 years, Ambassador Thomas Oertle said: “Here’s to a decade of friendship and collaboration … and to many more decades to come!”
