Swiss and Omani relationship strengthened during high-level Diplomatic engagement

A significant meeting took place in Muscat as Andrea Caroni, President of the Swiss Council of States, accompanied by Switzerland’s Ambassador to Oman, Thomas Oertle, met with H.E. Sheikh Taher Al Junaibi, Deputy Chairman of Oman’s Shura Council. This high-level diplomatic engagement highlighted the growing partnership between Switzerland and Oman.

The discussions, held in a spirit of mutual respect and cooperation, emphasised the importance of enhancing collaboration across various fields, including legislative cooperation and cultural exchange. The meeting also praised the strong bilateral relations that have long united the two friendly nations.

The official Twitter account of the Swiss Parliament (@ParlCH) celebrated the event, tweeting: “@AndreaCaroniAR, President of the Council of States, and HE Sheikh Taher Al Junaibi, Deputy Chairman of the @ShuraCouncil_OM, held a productive meeting today, highlighting efforts to further enhance bilateral relations.”

Switzerland’s Ambassador to Oman, Thomas Oertle, also shared his insights, stating:”A productive meeting today between Hon. @AndreaCaroniAR, President of the Council of States (@ParlCH), and HE Sheikh Taher Al Junaibi, Deputy Chairman of @ShuraCouncil_OM, emphasized strengthening bilateral relations.”

Oman’s Shura Council echoed the sentiment in their own tweet: “His Excellency Sheikh Taher Al Junaibi, Vice President of #مجلس_الشورى, receives the Honorable Dr. Andrea Claudio, President of the Swiss Council of States, and his accompanying delegation. During the meeting…The strong bilateral relations between the two friendly countries were praised. Emphasizing the importance of enhancing cooperation in various fields and strengthening existing cooperation between legislative institutions.”

Context

This meeting marks a significant step forward in Swiss-Omani relations as both countries celebrated 50 years since diplomatic relations were first established between the two, and 10 years since Switzerland officiated its embassy in Oman.

As the global landscape evolves, Switzerland and Oman continue to prioritise strong diplomatic ties. The meeting in Muscat serves as a testament to their shared commitment to fostering peace, cooperation, and innovation on the international stage.
