London, April 9, 2025 — Switzerland reaffirmed its commitment to international maritime cooperation during a courtesy visit by Swiss Ambassador to the UK, Markus Leitner, to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in London.
In a tweet following the meeting, His Excellency Ambassador Leitner emphasised Switzerland’s global influence as home to the world’s largest container shipping company and a key hub for commodity trading. He underscored the country’s investment in the work of the IMO, the United Nations’ specialised agency responsible for regulating shipping.
The ambassador, joined by the Swiss delegation, met with IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez.
Switzerland, though landlocked, plays a significant role in global maritime logistics and supports the IMO’s mission to ensure secure, environmentally sound shipping practices worldwide.
