World renowned poet (late) Mr. Naseer Turabi was posthumously conferred with ‘Sitara-e-Imtiaz’ (which, in English, means ‘Star of Excellence’) by the President of Pakistan, Dr Arif Alvi.
‘Sitara-e-Imtiaz’ or ‘Star of Excellence’ is the third highest award in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, after ‘Hilal-e-Imtiaz’ and ‘Nishan-e-Imtiaz’.
President of Pakistan, Dr Arif Alvi conferred the aforementioned award on Mr. Naseer Turabi for his services to literature.
Mr Nasser Turabi was born in 1945 and died in 2021 – and was renowned all over the world, particularly among Urdu and Hindi speakers, for his unique, in-depth and thought-provoking poetry.
Many of his poems were also used for theme songs of popular Pakistani dramas such as ‘Wo Humsfara Tha’ and many others.
Meanwhile, the award was received by the sons of (late) Naseer Turabi – Rashed Naseer Turabi and Danish Turabi. The sons of the late poet received the award from the Governor of Sindh, Mr Kamran Tessori (as illustrated in the feature picture).
