President Donald Trump met with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan on the sidelines of the 50th World Economic Forum summit. The meeting took place in Davos, Switzerland.
During the meeting, the U.S. President referred to his Pakistani counterpart as “a very good friend of mine”. The U.S. President also said that “it’s an honor to be with my friend”, according to the White House website.
Both leaders stated that important issues need to be discussed between the two countries. The most crucial issues on the table were Kashmir, trade and Afghanistan.
On the issue of Kashmir, President Donald Trump said that the USA would be willing to help. He said: “And if we can help, we certainly will be helping”.
Meanwhile, the official Twitter account of PTI – Imran Khan’s party – posted a summary of what Imran Khan said during the press briefing. According to the PTI account, Pakistan’s Prime Minister said that “Pak & US are on the same page of bringing Peace in Afghanistan”.
In response to the remarks by both leaders, a number of commentators and politicians praised Imran Khan for highlighting the issue of Kashmir.
Abdul Aleem Khan, a PTI politician tweeted in praise of his boss: “Due to the diplomatic efforts of PMIK, Kashmir has become an important issue in Pak-US relations”.
