The United Arab Emirates has been at the forefront in helping Pakistan deal with the disastrous floods affecting a third of the country. Excessive monsoon rains and glaciers melting at an alarming rate have submerged vast swaths of the country under water, displaced millions and killed hundreds of people.

Satellite images shared on social media illustrate that the current floods are substantially worse than the ones in 2010.

In such troubling and heart-breaking times, the United Arab Emirates has been at the forefront when it comes to helping Pakistan confront the present emergency.

At least 15 flights have arrived from the UAE Government in Pakistan containing much needed items for those affected by the unprecedented floods. In a social media post by the UAE Embassy in Pakistan, for instance, it was stated that: ‘The schedule of flights of UAE relief Air Bridge continues in support of flood victims in Pakistan, and one flight arrived lslamabad, which is the 15th in the total number of flights loaded with tons of food, medical supplies and tents to shelter the affected’.

Further flights are expected in the coming days and weeks, which will provide further relief to the country at this challenging time.

In response to this much needed support from the United Arab Emirates, Pakistanis have expressed their gratitude to the government and the people of the United Arab Emirates.

Ambreen Fatima, a journalist, for example, tweeted: ‘Thank you President UAE His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for your kind cooperation during these testing times in Pakistan.’
