Today would have marked the 73rd birthday of late Senator Rehman Malik, Pakistan’s longest serving Interior Minister.
Senator Rehman Malik, who was born on 12 December 1951 in Pakistan’s city of Sialkot, served his country through an impressive career which saw him as Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency prior to rising to prominence in the Pakistan People’s Party and becoming the Interior Minister under President Asif Ali Zardari.
Social media users from all across Pakistan and abroad have utilised Senator Rehman Malik’s 73rd birthday anniversary to pay tribute to his hard work, dedication to service, selflessness and humanitarian work.
Reaction and Tribute
Award-winning journalist, author, broadcaster and playwright, Tim Walker, whilst reflecting on his interactions with the late Interior Minister, tweeted: “A good man”. Tim Walker, who is now a journalist at Byline Times, recently wrote an article recounting how Senator Rehman Malik helped save the life of family that was in mortal danger.
Riaz Ali Turi, who worked with Senator Rehman Malik for more than a decade, spoke fondly of his boss, saying “His generosity, courage, and unwavering commitment to humanity left an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him”. Mr Turi further said: “His absence is deeply felt every day, but his values and lessons continue to inspire me”.
Commenting on the legacy of his boss, Mr Riaz Ali Turi expressed his delight that Ali Rehman Malik and Umar Rehman Malik, sons of the late Interior Minister, are continuing to carry on his work. “On the birth anniversary of Senator Rehman Malik”, says Mr Turi, “it’s inspiring to see his sons, Ali Rehman Malik and Umar Rehman Malik, carrying forward his extraordinary legacy”.
Mr Ali Rehman Malik, the elder son of the late Interior Minister, shared memorable pictures of his father with the heartwarming caption, “Happy Birthday Baba” [Urdu for dad]. Mr Umar Rehman Malik, the younger son of the late Senator, said “Words cannot express how deeply we miss you”.
Social media users, in response, recounted their memorable moments with Senator Rehman Malik, and expressed that his presence is felt deeply on the country’s political landscape.
