All Thought, Culture & Travel

Qatar might be the top destination known for its incredible Hamad International Airport, but some still don’t know that it’s much more than just a simple stopover.

The country is an enchanting blend of both the old-world ways and a modern luxury escape. Its capital Doha is home to the finest luxury experiences one can ask for. The country has previously had eyes on from all over the globe as it hosted the biggest and best football tournament, the FIFA World Cup.

The capital Doha still retains much of its traditional feel – and yet it’s surrounded by skyscrapers of the 21st century giving it a metropolis outlook.

For adventurer seekers looking to experience the Qatari heritage and take a break from bustling and luxurious Doha, there – just outside the city – lies the desert where nights under the stars and dunes await. The dessert safari is a popular hangout spot for tourists and locals and for many seeking guaranteed sunshine. Bookings can be made for thrilling activities like sandboarding, camel riding and dune bashing.

For culture fans, the Museum of Islamic Art showcases comprehensive art pieces of Islamic heritage. On the seven-kilometre corniche, the museum is a sight on its own.

Qatar is home to one of the most historical markets, “Souq Waqif”, which dates back to the 19th and 20th century. I would describe it as the “the ultimate shopping destination”. The souq is known to sell traditional garments, souvenirs and even gold. For visitors, it’s a must-go place that should not be missed.

The food scene in Qatar is also a combination of enchanting and mouth-watering adventure. Machbus is the national dish consisting of rice, meat and vegetables and is loved by many who visit Qatar. The great hospitality of Qataris takes you on a culinary journey of its own.

The heavenly Umm Ali is a must try dessert to finish a meal. The decadent dessert is packed with custard and filled with flaky filo pastry in every bite. The coconut shards, pistachios and raisins give it the perfect topping making it a memorable culinary experience.

Qatari’s are known for their Karak tea, typically made with strong black tea, cardamom, saffron and milk which is sold at almost every other corner of the bazaar (souq) and loved by many for its powerful taste.

Something that caught my eye was the overall safety in the country. The country had ranked “safest country in the world” for two consecutive years in 2021 and 2022. And generally, there was a sense of comfort while travelling there.

Events happening in Qatar

In 2024, Qatar plans to become even more welcoming as it plans to host many more events which you should look out for when planning your trip.

From 29th November to 1st December, the Formula 1 Qatar Airways Grand Prix 2024 takes place. So, whether you’re a Lewis Hamilton fan or a Daniel Riccardo follower you’ll be able to watch your favourite F1 stars compete for a podium finish at the spectacular Lusail International Circuit.

Another phenomenal event taking place is the Al Shaqab International Arabian Horse Show, where you will be able to witness world class horses compete at the prestigious Longines Indoor Arena. The event will take place from November 6 to 9 2024 under the patronage of H.E. Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani.

Something that caught my eye was the overall safety in the country. The country had ranked “safest country in the work “for two consecutive years in 2021 and 2022. And generally, there was a sense of comfort while travelling there. Special protocols had been put across the hospitality sector and all tourism establishments across the country after Covid-19.the standards of cleanliness and safety were truly impeccable.

Qatar also plans to provide a platform for students who would like to pursue international qualifications from overseas. For this the country will be hosting the Gulf Expo in Qatar for students from all over the Middle East and around the world in February 2025. Where students will be able to explore universities and schools that specialise in their program of interest.

It wouldn’t be wrong to say that there’s something for everyone in Qatar.
