BTS, the worldwide famous South Korean group, has just published an official statement on Twitter in support #BlackLivesMatter. The statement has been published both in Korean and English with the aforementioned hashtag.
“We stand against racial discrimination. We condemn violence. You, I and we all have the right to be respected. We will stand together”, the official statement reads.
At the time of reporting, the above tweet has been retweeted by more than 500,000 people and liked by more than 700,000 social media users.
This isn’t the first time that BTS have spoken up on a social issue. Previously, they partnered with UNICEF and gave a speech at the United Nations.
In response to BTS’ social media post, their fans as well as those outside of the fandom expressed their gratitude for speaking out. For example, Luke Waltham, a writer and an activist, tweeted: “Thank you for speaking out. We know what you stand for, and your message is clear. Let’s keep fighting for justice, equality and a better world.”
Levis, who is a WWE Superstar, also posted his response to BTS’ tweet. “This just makes me smile. Thank you @BTS_twt”, he quote-tweeted.
