Karachi, Pakistan – Chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, inaugurated the first phase of the Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Expressway in Karachi today. Constructed under the innovative Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model by the Sindh government, this project marks a significant milestone in the development of Karachi and underscores the PPP’s commitment to infrastructure growth and public welfare.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari emphasised the historical contributions the PPP to Karachi’s progress, highlighting the legacy of his grandfather, Quaid-e-Awam Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, who initiated transformative projects like Shahrah-e-Faisal and Pakistan Steel Mills.
Mr Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also lauded the efforts of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, who prioritised infrastructure, peace, and employment in Karachi during her tenure, despite various challenges.
The Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Expressway is set to improve connectivity within Karachi and across Sindh, while creating substantial employment opportunities for local residents.
The PPP Chairman praised the Sindh government’s successful adoption of the Public-Private Partnership mode, citing its achievements in education, healthcare, power infrastructure, and now, major infrastructure projects. He noted that while other provinces and the federal government struggled to implement similar models, Sindh’s efforts have gained international recognition. He also urged the business community in Karachi and across Pakistan to participate in Sindh’s development initiatives.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, PPP Sindh President Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab, Sindh Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani, and several prominent business leaders, social figures, and celebrities, including Arif Habib, Aqeel Karim Dhedhi, Zubair Motiwala, Faisal Edhi, and former cricket captain Younis Khan.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s speech underscored the PPP’s commitment to inclusive development, infrastructure growth, and public welfare. He called on the federal government to take inspiration from Sindh’s success and adopt similar development models to drive national progress.
The Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Expressway is a testament to the PPP’s dedication to Karachi’s advancement and a brighter future for its residents. This project also sets a benchmark for sustainable and inclusive development in Pakistan.
