Ali Rehman Malik and Umar Rehman Malik, sons of Pakistan’s longest serving Interior Minister (late) Senator Rehman Malik, visited churches in Islamabad to express solidarity after the horrific Jaranwala violence.

During the visit, both sons of the (late) former Interior Minister raised awareness about the plight and challenges the Christian community is suffering from in Pakistan.

Addressing the congregation in the churches that they visited, Umar Rehman Malik – who has been appointed as the PPP’s Digital Media Head for Islamabad by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari – said: “all citizens in the country have equal rights and for a peaceful, progressive and prosperous Pakistan, we need to promote inter-faith harmony.”

Mr Umar Rehman Malik further added that: “Pakistan People’s Party and its young chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari have always talked about the rights and protection of minorities in Pakistan. He said that Peoples Party is the only representative political party of minorities.”

To pragmatically help the Christian communities in Pakistan – especially those that suffered from the recent violence – both gentlemen “announced that they will be working on a relief fund to support victims of the Jaranwala violence”.

This announcement, according to a press release about the visit, was well received by the Christian community who “thanked Pakistan Peoples Party, Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Umar Rehman Malik and Ali Rehman Malik for standing with them in the hour of difficulty’.
