A lunch time spent at the AL BASHA restaurant in Knightsbridge, London, is a lunch time well spent.

Located just outside of Hyde Park and only a 15 minute walking distance from Buckingham Palace, AL BASHA restaurant offers an authentic dive into tasty Middle Eastern cuisine. It’s a treat to behold, an experience to be had, a visit to be made.

My experience

The staff, who are incredibly kind, welcoming and hardworking, recommended me the ‘Mixed Grill’, which is a ‘selection of kafta, shish taouk, and Lamb cubes & lamb cutlet, served with rice or chips’.

I initially thought, when my food arrived, that I wouldn’t be able to finish the whole plate but it was so enjoyable that I would have asked for another round if I wasn’t limited on time.

Everything on the plate was cooked, placed and organised to perfection. The chili sauce and the garlic sauce the staff offered me with the food made it even more appetising.

To say that AL BASHA’s ‘Mixed Grill’ is delicious would be an astronomical understatement. It is, in fact, one of the best I have had in London. It also made me feel like I was enjoying my meal in Cairo, and not in the heart and centre of London, because of the wonderful Arabic music playing on their TV screens.

The ‘Mixed Grill’ was followed ‘Saffron Milk’ and ‘Om Ali’.

‘Saffron Milk’, as I was trying it for the first time, is definitely a drink that I want try again.

‘Om Ali’, which is an ‘Egyptian bread pudding with milk cream and topped with nuts’, is a heavenly dessert for someone like myself who LOVES desserts, cakes and sweets.

All I can say is that if you’re in London or planning your visit, you have got to try the menu at AL BASHA restaurant in Knightsbridge.
