AFAR’s 2024 Travel Vanguard Award has recognised Switzerland Tourism for its pioneering efforts in uniting the Swiss tourism industry under a shared commitment to sustainability.
This award honoured and recognised the work of nine tourism companies in total.
Switzerland Tourism’s “Swisstainable” initiative encourages tourism providers to adopt sustainable practices, building on the country’s strengths, such as its extensive and efficient public transportation network and a strong tradition of locally sourced food. As of Autumn 2024, 2,775 businesses across the country have joined the program, with nearly 700 more in the application process.
Martin Nydegger, CEO of Switzerland Tourism, expressed his gratitude for the recognition, tweeting, “Awarded by @AFARmedia ‘s 2024 Travel Vanguard: @MySwitzerland_e – one of 9 inspiring companies changing the way we travel! #Sustainable #Tourism #IneedSwitzerland”
The Swisstainable initiative not only promotes environmental responsibility but also enhances the travel experience by offering visitors authentic and eco-friendly options, ensuring that tourism benefits both travelers and local communities.
AFAR’s Travel Vanguard Awards celebrate organisations that are making travel a force for good, and Switzerland Tourism’s dedication to sustainability exemplifies this mission.
This award is yet another milestone for Switzerland Tourism, as they received an award for their digital innovation in November of this year. 2025 is expected to be another successful year for Switzerland Tourism as they continue to build on their success and achievements in promoting Switzerland as one of the best holiday destinations in the world.
